About this activity

Step back in time to the grand days of Ancient Rome as we explore the fascinating world of Roman bathing culture and Diocletian’s Bathhouse Legacy. Roman baths, or thermae, were not just places to bathe—they were social hubs, cultural centers, and architectural marvels. Just as wine flowed freely in ancient Roman banquets and daily rituals, we honor that tradition today with a guided tasting of premium Croatian wines.

On this unique tour, your guide will take you on a journey through the history of Roman bathing, uncovering the rituals, the grandeur, and the significance these baths held in the lives of Romans. We’ll also discuss the engineering feats of the time, like underfloor heating (hypocaust) and aqueduct systems that made these baths possible.

To make the experience truly Roman, we’ll pair the history of bathing with a tasting of local Croatian wines. And to complement your tasting, you’ll enjoy a selection of traditional Mediterranean finger foods.  From the refreshing white Kujundžuša of Imotski to the island-born Pošip and the bold Plavac Mali from the Pelješac Peninsula, this tour blends history and hedonism in one unforgettable setting.

This immersive experience offers a perfect blend of ancient history, local culture, and fine flavors—a true taste of Roman luxury, right in the heart of Split.

Great experience

A perfect way to spend a rainy morning in Split. The local wine tasting was great, our tour guide was really interesting and we got to see a bit od remains on the site which is absolutely wow! We were sad about the rain in Split but this was a perfect choice and by the time the tour ended the rain stopped so it was a perfect day at the end! Thank you Lucija :)

Roman thermae and wine tasting

I recently joined the roman thermae tour in Split and was absolutely blown away by the experience. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, bringing the ancient bathhouse ruins to life with vivid stories and historical insights. The tour ended on a high note with a wine tasting featuring local wines and prosciutto, all set on the ruins of the bathhouse. It was the perfect blend of history, culture, and local flavor. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Split!
